BISHOP PAUL A. BOWERS
Bishop Bowers was born in Oxford, Pennsylvania in 1929, and was saved under the ministry of Elder R.L. Hancock, called to the ministry in 1946, and attended his first PAW Convention in Cleveland, 1947, where he slept on the floor of the church, due to lack of housing.
He was ordained in 1950, (Boston Convention)-becoming the youngest minister ever ordained with the PA of W. Served as a National Evangelist -1950 to 1956 and began pastoring Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple in Cincinnati in January 1957. He pastored Greater Emanuel for 57 years. In February 2014, turned the church over to his son-in-law, Elder LaVelton Daniel.
He attended Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a B.S. Degree, and Aenon Bible College where he earned a B.Th. Degree. He taught high school Social Studies in the Cincinnati Public School System. In 1962, he was elected PAW Assistant General Secretary. He was elected General Secretary in 1968.
Bishop Bowers was the PAW General Secretary until 1976, when he was also elevated to the Bishopric in Chicago Convention. He was assigned Diocesan over the Carolinas. This Council saw tremendous growth. 1992 he was elected Presiding Bishop of the PAW. He served as until 1998. He was Diocesan over Ohio from 1998 until he retired in 2014.
He was married to the late Dr. Elma Jean Bowers, and have three daughters (Paula, Patricia & Pamela). He married Rebecca Johns in November 2003. Bishop Paul A. Bowers went from labor to reward on January 31st 2019. His legacy lives on.
